Final

25) Pie

Finland 2005

Original title: Why?

In my bed empty stomach’s churning
In my head all the wheels are turning
And my gut’s full of vacant yearning
To have myself a little slice

Morning breaks with the smell of piecrust
Fills my heart with a sense of pie-lust
Bake it first and then deep fry it
A treat for which I’d gladly die.

And they tell me the baking’s just begun
Tell me how
Tell me how long I’ll wait before it’s done.
It drives me wild!

So I’m baking
Pie! Pie!
Will it ever leave the oven?
Pie! Pie!
Why can’t I just eat the batter?
Pie! Pie!
I try to face it like a man
But fruit-filled dough is dripping from the pan
Can’t I eat my pie?!

What’s the secret to baking faster?
What’s the skill that I have to master?
How do I find the trick that lets me
Cut in half the waiting time?

Winds of faith help my pie cool quicker
Cool it now, or I’ll switch to liquor
Can this fan really make a difference?
Well, I guess it’s worth a try.

Where’s my pie?

I move it closer to my plate
I’m nearly overcome
I no longer have to wait.
It really almost blows my mind...

That I’m eating
Pie! Pie!
Finally got my slice of heaven
Pie! Pie!
Think I’ll have two, three or seven...
Pies! Pies!
I know they’re starving in Sudan
But fruit and dough are sticking to my hands.
Give me piiiiiee!
