The table below shows all of the countries that have achieved a top five placing in the Contest, Joint placings are treated favourably, e.g. "5th equal" is recognised as "5th". Inevitably, this kind of analysis tends to be skewed in favour of the earlier years, as
ranked in "Olympic medal table" style in terms of their overall performance.
it is considerably easier to reach the top five in a year with only 10 songs than in a
year with 36, for example!
