Cyprus took the top two placings in the contest in 1994; their second-placed entry was performed by the then 15-year-old Michael Hadjiyiannis (as his name was transliterated for the purpose of the competition), who was on the verge of a big career that would take him to the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest, among other things. Meanwhile, 2007 representative Andreas Anastasiou would later compose the Cypriot entry for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf as well as the island nation's entry for Junior Eurovision 2016.
