Contest overview

The 2015 Home Composed Song Contest was organised by Bo Söderholm from Finland following his victory in the previous year's competition. As in previous years, there was a dedicated website for the event.

In one of the most bizarre episodes in HCSC history, a total of 12 entries had to be disqualified after it was discovered that they had all been submitted with the direct or indirect involvement of four-time winner Tony Søgaard Olsen. This came to light after the voting, when 11 debut "entrants" - all of whom were represented by instrumental-only songs, none of whom had a traceable online footprint, and all of whom had declined to join the Home Composed Facebook group or allow themselves to be identified more credibly - all gave 12 points to Tony's entry and otherwise voted in a way that appeared to be designed to hinder the chances of the other likely contenders. Organiser Bo Söderholm's only option was to disqualify all of the offending entries, Tony's included, on the assumption of cheating and to run the voting again with the artificial votes removed. The songs are not shown on this page, since they were never intended as genuine entries in the first place.

This left the 2015 contest with a field of 18 valid entries. Belarus, Russia and San Marino appeared on the scoreboard for the first time, although the latter was represented by Alberto Flego, who had previously entered HCSC under the Italian flag. As usual, the participant juries were joined by a jury composed of the Radio International Team (shown as Gj1.png in the voting table below). There was also an internet-based public vote (shown as Gj2.png below), with the participants being encouraged to spread the word and drum up support for their own entries.

The disqualification drama masked what would have been an incredibly exciting voting, with a spread of just three points separating the top four entries. In the end, Spain grabbed its first ever HCSC victory with "When I Die" by composer H.U. (name redacted at composer's request) and vocalist Kristin. Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, even the lowest-ranked entries achieved total scores in the 30s and 40s - a remarkable and encouraging turn of events.

Note: There are some points missing from the Italian jury. Italy sent votes before the deadline, but because of a misunderstanding, the votes sent were not a full top 20 as required by the rules. The mass disqualifications meant that the organiser had to refer to these lower positions in order to compile a new voting result, but this was not possible for Italy. In order to be able to announce the final result without a further delay, the organiser took the decision to let the Italian entry stay in the contest with the votes as given, since everyone had delivered usable votes for the first final in good faith and could not be held responsible for Tony's improbable actions. The organiser's decision on this matter is final.
