Spain first participated in the Home Composed Song Contest in the inaugural edition in 1991 and was most recently represented in the 2018 edition.

Spain has one victory to its name, achieved by "When I Die" performed by Kristin in 2015. Alfonso Daniel also claimed victory on behalf of Spain in the special Instrumental of the Year category the following year.
