“Happy Ever After”
Performed by: The Quirks
Music by: Andrew Mendelson
Lyrics by: Andrew Mendelson
In their own words:
The Quirks are back with more of their lounge-bar musings. This time with a pleasant little ditty that has been scientifically engineered to last exactly the right length of time needed for the perfect soft-boiled egg. It’s another song about relationships, specifically about a one-night stand that turns out to be the real thing (yes, we mean lurrrve!). It’s exactly the sort of song we think Frank Sinatra would be singing if he were part of the modern zeitgeist (and crucially, not dead).
The Quirks are: Les Barrett – bongos; Terry Mancini (aka Biscuits) – Vibes; Florian Albert – Bazouki; Clyde Best – Keys; and Ron Flowers – Voice. With special thanks to Harry Cripps.
Enjoy your egg.
Lyrics:
You were only meant to be a bit of slap and tickle
Who knew that very soon we’d make it official
And though there were those who said we couldn’t go faster
It’s why, you and I lived, happy ever after
Once, there was you there could be, nobody else
Now there’s only dust where I’d been, left on the shelf
And through it all, Cupid’s arrow couldn’t be sharper
It’s why, you and I lived, happy ever after
Sometimes, when you fumble in the dark
You come across a match and suddenly, there’s a spark
We had to marry young, no time for romance
After all, it was love. We never stood a chance
So in the end there were no doubts that we harboured
It’s why, you and I lived, happy ever after
Sometimes, when you fumble in the dark
You come across a match and suddenly, there’s a spark
You were only meant to be a bit of slap and tickle
Who knew that very soon we’d make it official
And though there were those who said we couldn’t go faster
It’s why, you and I lived, happy ever after
