“Välkommen, Du Vår” (Welcome, Spring)

In their own words:
My name is Martin and I’m a language history student. I’ve taken part more times than I ought to, but I simply enjoy listening to all the other entries and want to give the participants my view of the songs (and my view isn’t always similar to the views others have).
The song was written in March 2023 for a mixed choir that I conduct as one of the songs to sing at a live concert held annually on April 30, when we sing songs to welcome the Spring and make it strong enough to keep the Winter back in its cupboard for the next 6 months. The choir hasn’t recorded it yet, so this version is the male voice version recorded by me, myself and all my other me-wannabies this spring (but in a HCSC remix, which hopefully is easier to listen to than the version released this spring). So sit down, put your earcuffs on and brace yourselves for this record-breaking HCSC entry – one of the shortest! Then you’re free to relax and forget that you ever had to listen to all those Martins…. 🙂 Ac mi fydd rhaid i chi fod yn ddiolchgar, achos dydy’r gân ddim yn Gymraeg y tro ‘ma! 😀
Given that the song isn’t anything like an ESC entry I don’t expect any success – but at least it’s a song that I can send so that I may give my votes to most of the good songs that I expect to find in HCSC this year (the last years good songs have ended up outside my top10, so I don’t dare hoping that I’ll be able to give points to all the good songs). Enjoy the show, folks – and remember that participating is more important than winning!
Lyrics:
Vintermörkret har haft världen i sitt grepp,
Men ljuset börjar komma tillbaka.

Welsh Translation:
Croeso’r Gwanwyn
Mae tywyllwch y Gaeaf wedi cael y byd yn ei cadwyn,
Ond mae’r golau’n dŵad nôl.
Rŵan dan ni isio Haf poeth efo haul,
i fydd y byd yn fyw eto!
Croeso’r Gwanwyn!
Rhoi cynnes a golau!
Wnei’r byd wyrd nôl!
Mae cadwyn y Gaeaf dechrau lleihau
Ac mae’r cynneswch yn dŵad nôl.
Rŵan dan ni isio mwynhau’n natur hyfryd
Cyn i’r Gaeaf ddychwelyd nôl eto.
Croeso’r Gwanwyn!
Rhoi cynnes a golau!
Wnei’r byd wyrd nôl!

English Translation:
Welcome, Spring
The darkness of Winter has had the world in its grip,
But the light is starting to come back.
Now we want a warm summer filled with sun,
So that the world returns to life.
Welcome, Spring!
Shed your warmth and light!
Make the world green again!
The chains of Winter have started crumbling
And the warmth is coming back.
Now we want to enjoy our beautiful nature
Before Winter returns again.
Welcome, Spring!
Shed your warmth and light!
Make the world green again!
