Contest overview
The previous year's winner, Bengt Carlvik from Sweden, took on the task of organising the 1993 competition.
There were very few changes from the previous year's contest. Y. Sapir returned for Israel after a year's break, while Henrik Wickstrand from Sweden bowed out. Otherwise, the line-up was the same as in 1992 - ten songs from five composers.
The recently introduced rule allowing the use of vocals in the Home Composed Song Contest started to have a real effect, as only half of this year's songs were instrumentals. Unlike the Eurovision Song Contest, HCSC has always had a "free language rule", and the 1993 edition boasted entries in English, Italian and French.
In the end, Bengt Carlvik kept the title in Scandinavia for another year, taking first and second place and once again edging the United Kingdom's Ace Frehmen out of the top positions.
