Contest overview
The 2010 Home Composed Song Contest was organised by the team from the Eurovision Austria website and OGAE Austria under the coordination of former HCSC winner Sascha Mutavdzic.
Although no countries made their Home Composed debuts, there were a handful of new faces among the 22 entries. The overwhelming majority of participants chose to enter only one song, and while the organiser of each year's edition would continue to have the freedom to allow entrants to submit either one or two songs, a "one song per entrant" rule would effectively establish itself as the norm in just a few years' time.
The organisers produced a video voting show, which is archived here. As in previous years, the results of the contest included an internet vote (shown as in the scoreboard below). Radio International again provided enthusiastic support, featuring the contest extensively in its shows, although the organisers refrained from inviting a guest jury to give its votes this time. Unfortunately, two participants failed to submit their votes on time and were subsequently disqualified.
After leading almost all the way, Estonian entrant Christa was pipped at the post - with the votes of the very last jury giving the victory instead to "Running On Empty" by londonvision feat. Tiina. Having been represented in every single edition of the contest to date, this was the first ever win for the United Kingdom. It proved to be a consensus result, too - this was only the second time a song had won HCSC without receiving a single maximum vote.
