Austria first participated in the Home Composed Song Contest in 2005 and was most recently represented in the 2011 edition.

Austrian entries have finished on the podium on three occasions, taking silver and bronze in 2005 thanks to Karl Gartler's MikeWail project and another second place in 2011 thanks to "Can't Stop" by Sara Koell.

The country also propped up the scoreboard in 2010 with the unique "Üürnikaktus" by Cactus Project.
